2nd Philipp Lahm-summer camp for underprivileged children

The German Commission for UNESCO of the excellent Philipp Lahm's summer camp is in the second round. This year the camps are from 1 to 7 August in Hamburg and 22 to 28 August in Munich. Some 160 socially disadvantaged children from all over Germany are taking part. In the camp they will experience ten to thirteen fun exercises, including healthy eating and team work. The German Commission for UNESCO has awarded the initiative in the spring as a project of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development ", because it provides a practical sustainable thinking and action.

Experienced teachers, sports and communication scientists show the children how a sustainable food looks like and what makes a healthy meal. The girls and boys buy a fresh fruit and vegetables, learn about local ingredients and cook the food under supervision. Sports activities and skill exercises show the importance of movement and coordination for their own well-being. During the week the children will recognize their talents and interests.

"A gift must be discovered and promoted. My success is not granted. My environment has recognized my strengths, I myself have worked hard on me, "says Philipp Lahm. "I want to my camp to initiate children and adolescents to believe in themselves and also to work in the direction so they can take their lives into their own hands."

The Bundesliga player is to command daily tasks to the children by video message, which they solve in a team in a short time. The children practice how to think ahead to plan jointly with others and to reflect their own ideas. The German Commission for UNESCO has recognized the initiative as an official project of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014). The states of the United Nations have committed to embed sustainable learning in their education systems. Based on a unanimous decision Bundestag coordinates the German Commission for UNESCO, the German activities to the UN Decade. The Federal Ministry for Education and Research supports the work.
